Mindfulness Mediation in Long Island

Mindfulness meditation is a trendy term. We see images of people sitting in a lotus position all over the web and on TV. Celebrities talk about their “meditation practice.” Does it really help anyone do anything?

What is Mindfulness Meditation?

Mindfulness can be defined as the practice of focusing on one’s current experiences (thoughts, feelings, and sensations) without judgment. It may be easier to define than to do.

Meditation is an exercise in which one practices intentionally focusing attention on something, e.g., the breath, a mantra, etc. Meditation can help us learn how to be mindful more frequently.

How Can I Learn Meditation?

Meditation is something you can learn on your own from meditation videos or books. You can also attend a class or go to a meditation center. I have conducted research on the effects of mindfulness meditation, specifically Mindful-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). As a clinician, I teach many of my clients how to meditate and to incorporate mindfulness into their lives. In fact, all of the staff at my practice utilize mindfulness techniques, including meditation when clients can benefit from it.

We also frequently offer meditation workshops to the public or to our clients in our mediation center in Rockville Centre.
